The Minnesota Vikings made a plethora of additions in free agency and the NFL Draft. Here are three players who won’t make the Week 1, 53-man roster.

The Minnesota Vikings were perhaps one of the more active teams in the NFL this offseason. After failing to clinch a playoff berth, the team made a plethora of moves in free agency and also added a grand total of 11 players in the NFL Draft.

Training camp is approaching in the coming days, and as is always the case, there are going to be plenty of names being handed their walking papers when teams cut down their rosters to 53 players. For the Vikings, here are three players who likely won’t survive training camp cuts as we sit more than a month away from the start of the 2021 season.

3. Dru Samia, Guard

When it comes to the offense, the Vikings mainly focused on addressing the line of scrimmage this offseason. That makes sense, considering they surrendered 39 sacks last season (12th-most in NFL). While the Vikings effectively replaced Riley Reiff at left tackle with first-round selection Christian Darrisaw, they also made another addition to the interior of the offensive line in Ohio State’s Wyatt Davis.

Minnesota has the offensive guard positions set with Davis and Ezra Cleveland. There is also veteran Dakota Dozier on the roster. That does not leave much room for any more guards. That means Dru Samia could be shown the door by the end of training camp.

The Vikings drafted Samia in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma. Samia only played in two games with the Vikings in his rookie year, but he did start in three of 14 games last season. Samia allowed three sacks and was called for four penalties in 272 offensive snaps last year, per Pro Football Focus.

With the promise of Davis and Cleveland starting next to center Garrett Bradbury, Samia is facing a difficult challenge of earning a roster spot for the 2021 season.
